You cannot see most of what is in the air, but you can check it. The Air Quality Index is the quickest way to know what kind of day your lungs are in for — and it pairs well with your BreathiZen habit.
The US Air Quality Index runs from 0 to 500. 0–50 is Good (green), 51–100 Moderate (yellow), 101–150 Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups (orange), 151–200 Unhealthy (red), 201–300 Very Unhealthy (purple) and 301+ Hazardous (maroon). Check it daily on AirNow and adjust outdoor activity on higher days.
The six AQI bands — and where BreathiZen fits
The AQI turns pollution readings into one number and one colour. Lower is better. Anything under 50 is good air; above 100, sensitive people — children, older adults, people with lung or heart conditions — should start cutting back on long or hard outdoor activity. BreathiZen is a daily habit for every kind of day, not a fix for a bad one.

What to do on a higher-AQI day
- Move your walk or run to earlier in the morning or indoors.
- Keep windows closed and run a HEPA air purifier if you have one.
- Avoid busy roads for exercise.
- If you have a lung condition, follow your doctor's action plan.

Where to check the AQI alongside your BreathiZen routine
AirNow.gov and most phone weather apps show the AQI for your area. A good habit: check it when you take your BreathiZen in the morning and plan the day from there.
Beyond outdoor air: BreathiZen and the indoor side
Most people spend far more time inside than out, so indoor air counts too. See our guide to the air where you breathe most.
